Why Do People Suffer?

I was telling my wife about an email I received from someone telling me that they have suffered from sarcoidosis for many years, when she interrupted me and asked “Why do people suffer?”.

The question stopped me in my tracks and I realized the sheer power of words and their role in healing. I thought long about that and to the best of my knowledge I don’t ever say that I “suffer” from sarcoidosis or heart failure or pulmonary hypertension, because I don’t.

The dictionary has different definitions of the word “suffer” and they all boil down to “to undergo or feel pain or distress” . I am sure many people out there do feel that on a daily basis and I don’t deny them that in the least. I however won’t allow myself to succumb to this disease and its conditions and so I will not and do not suffer from sarcoidosis or its accompanying conditions of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.

Instead I always say that “I have” the conditions, not “I suffer” from the conditions. There is a very powerful difference in the use of the two sentences, and the word suffer puts a much harsher connotation energetically on the whole thing.

Try that from now on. Don’t allow your medical condition to let you suffer anymore. Try not to use that word when you describe your disease and it just might work to make things better if your body hears something different. There is a whole different energy.
